Al Sadd Multipurpose Sports Hall – Doha, Qatar
An Olympic multi-purpose hall for handball, basketball, volley ball, badminton, rhythmic gymnastics and international ice rink sports, compliant with local and international federation standards. The project consists of three buildings (the main arena building, the TV building and cooling tower building) as well as two storm water tanks located underground, and site landscaping (soft- and hard-scape) and internal roads around the buildings.
The building has 1 basement and 4 floors above ground plus catwalk floors with a free height of 34m and free span opening of 105m. The building comprises 45,200 m³ concrete and 2,300 tons of steel structure at the roof level.
The Main Arena Building is on a plot of approximately 16,000 m² and consists of a fully-integrated air-conditioned Main Field of Play courts for Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Badminton and Rhythmic Gymnastics, with seating for 8,524 spectators, and with all relevant supporting facilities and spaces.
The facility includes two warm-up halls with retractable seating, separate player, spectator, press and VVIP entrances, and dedicated external car parking. There are six changing rooms, a medical centre, physiotherapy and sauna, steam, Jacuzzi rooms and a doping control zone; a gymnasium hall, referee and coaching changing rooms, international federation staff offices, ticketing rooms, general stores and service areas, reception areas, lounges and toilets, prayer halls, cafeterias at each floor, catering rooms serving VVIP and VIP, rentable space with relevant services, administration offices with supporting facilities, a press centre, player and spectator first aid areas, area, commentator rooms, two TV studios, VVIP and VIP seating area, lounges, and underground car parking. The basement floor includes water, fire, irrigation, treatment plant tanks, substations etc.
The TV Building is compatible with TV broadcasting requirements; this building consists of work rooms, rest rooms, male and female toilets and a microwave tower.
